Mysore classes for beginners

All ‘general’ classes are taught in a traditional Mysore (named after a city in Southern India) style. Mysore style classes provide an opportunity to learn and develop the practice in its traditional format, with personal guidance and adjustments from the teacher. 

 

Newer students start with a short practice progressing through a set series of postures.  New postures are added based on flexibility, strength, breathing, concentration and dedication to practice.  In this way you progress at your own rate.  This helps in the cultivation of a personal yoga practice and ensures that your yoga practice is suitable for your current level of fitness and flexibility.

Beginners are accepted at the following times:

Monday 9.30am or 5pm, Tuesday 9am or 5pm, Wednesday 9.30am, Thursday 5pm, Friday 9am.

Talk through class light 

(for newer (able bodied) students

including those who have practiced some yoga before)

These classes are offered as a series of eight to ten classes on a term by term basis.  Students are expected to sign up for the entire term.  Designed for newer students who do not yet have a consistent practice of their own, beginner talk through classes are suitable only for bodies that are relatively pain and injury free. 

In these classes, starting with surya namaskāra (sun salutations), we work through the standing āsana (postures) and finish with some seated and finishing āsana.  We also focus on building core strength, developing breathe awareness, and exploring selected aspects of Ashtanga yoga tradition and philosophy as they relate to the practice of yoga. 

Cost: 

$150 for Term 4 (ten weeks)

Where to from here?

This class will grow your strength, flexibility, concentration and ability to breathe enabling an easy transition into General Mysore classes or the General Led (talk through) class.
